Local Number Texting and Registration

What is Local Number Texting?

Local number texting (also known as 10DLC or 10-digit long code), allows you to send texts from a local number (e.g., a number with a familiar area code instead of an 800 number). Local number texting can be used in the U.S. and Canada.

How do I get a local number?

When you create your account, you will be assigned a local number to text from.

If you prefer to text with your own landline phone number, fill out this Text-Em-All Letter of Authorization (LOA) and email it to support@text-em-all.com. Our team will work with the carriers to text-enable your number. You can't enable a mobile number for texting.

Tip: Mobile phone lines will not work for local number texting. Text carriers only allow landline numbers to be enabled for mass texting.

Furthermore, a number can only be used on one platform at a time. Even if text carriers allowed mobile/personal numbers to be used for mass texting, this would prevent your number from working in traditional messages apps (e.g., iMessage on iPhones).

Do I need to register my local text number?

Text-Em-All highly recommends anyone sending mass text messages to register their numbers with the carriers. Don't worry, we're here to help make that really easy!

Why? To help prevent fraud and spam, wireless carriers strongly encourage organizations to register for local number texting. Registered organizations will experience much less blocks on their text messages and faster message delivery speeds than unregistered local text numbers.

How do I register my local text numbers?

We've created a simple form to guide you through this process. The form will ask for a few areas of information. To get started, click the "REGISTER NOW" button on the top of your Text-Em-All account.

  • Provide your organization's information:
    • Your company's legal name
    • The address under which your company was registered in your state
    • The legal form of the organization (publicly traded, a private company, government, or a charity/not-profit).
    • The address under which your company was registered in your state
    • The legal form of the organization (publicly traded, a private company, government, or a charity/not-profit).
    • Tax number
    • Stock symbol and stock exchange (if public)
    • Vertical or industry

  • Carriers want to know what types of messages you will be sending. This helps them see quickly if the traffic on your number is legitimate or not. You'll need to provide the following:
    • A description of the messages you are sending.
    • An example message that you would typically send.

  • You'll also be asked about how you are given consent to send messages. You'll need to make a selection from the following options:
    • Verbal
    • Written
    • POS or On-site
    • Text Keyword
    • Automated System (IVR)
    • Online Form/Website

Once you’ve completed the registration form, we send the information to The Campaign Registry (TCR), a third-party company that is an intermediary between companies like Text-Em-All and mobile carriers.

If you want to increase the throughput on your number, you can also opt to undergo additional vetting by the TCR. Please reach out to our support team at support@text-em-all.com if you are interested.

If you need help with registering, reach out to our customer experience team at support@text-em-all.com or 877-226-3080.

How long does registration take?

Local number registration generally takes 3 to 9 business days depending on the messaging speed/volume needed. Other factors can delay the registration process, in which case, our support team will notify you of any additional information needed from your team.

Can I use my own local number?

Yes! If you prefer to text with your own landline phone number, fill out this Text-Em-All Letter of Authorization (LOA) and email it to support@text-em-all.com. You can't enable a mobile number for texting. Our team will work with the carriers to text-enable your number.

Are there any limits on local texting?

Yes, some carriers have restrictions you should consider.

The following numbers are the suggested maximum daily text message volume we recommend. These suggestions are based on T-Mobile's daily volume limits for local numbers. Medium to high-volume users are still able to text from a local number, but we recommend you register your organization first.

Suggested Max Daily Volume* Registration Recommended?
4,000 messages** Yes
4,000+ messages Yes, and we recommend becoming Vetted

To prevent your messages to T-Mobile from failing as your usage increases, please reach out to us for assistance registering your organization.

*Daily limits are based on the assumption that, at most, half of your messages will be going to T-Mobile contacts.  **1 message is equal to a 160-character text message.
