How do I set up single sign-on with Text-Em-All?
Text-Em-All supports single sign-on through OpenID Connect (OIDC). To set it up, choose a company name, create a Text-Em-All client in your single sign-on platform, and send Support the client credentials. Your organization needs a Text-Em-All account first. After Support completes the setup, your users sign in through a link that’s specific to your company.
What do I need before I start?
Before you start, your organization needs a Text-Em-All account, and each person who will use single sign-on needs a Text-Em-All user account. You also need someone who can create a client in your single sign-on platform and copy its credentials.
Here’s what to have ready:
- A Text-Em-All account for your organization.
- A Text-Em-All user account for each person who will sign in with single sign-on.
- Someone who can create a client in your single sign-on platform.
- A secure way to send Support the client secret, such as a Bitwarden Send link.
How do I set up single sign-on?
Setup takes four steps. You choose a company name and get a login callback URL, create the Text-Em-All client in your single sign-on platform, and send Support the client ID, the client secret value, and the OpenID configuration URL. Support then completes the setup on the Text-Em-All side.
Here are the steps:
- Choose a company name. Email support@text-em-all.com with the name you want, or ask Support to assign one. Support replies with your login callback URL, which looks like this:
https://app.text-em-all.com/oidc/login-callback/COMPANYNAME - In your single sign-on platform, create a client for Text-Em-All. Use the login callback URL from step 1 as the login callback.
- Send Support the client details using a secure method, such as a Bitwarden Send link. Support needs these three items:
- The client ID.
- The client secret value.
- The URL for the well-known OpenID configuration. If you don’t have that URL, send the issuer URL, authorization URL, token URL, and user info URL instead.
- Wait while Support completes the setup. When it’s done, your users can sign in with the link in the next section.
How do users sign in after setup?
After setup, a user who is signed in to your single sign-on platform can open your company’s Text-Em-All sign-in link and go straight in. The link is https://app.text-em-all.com/oidc/login/COMPANYNAME . Each user must already have a Text-Em-All account, and their username in your single sign-on platform must match their Text-Em-All username exactly.
Text-Em-All reads the username your single sign-on platform sends and signs the user in to the account with that exact username. If someone doesn’t have a Text-Em-All account yet, add them first. Your account owner can find the steps in Managing users.
Which single sign-on platforms work with Text-Em-All?
Text-Em-All uses OpenID Connect, an open standard, so a single sign-on platform that supports OIDC should work. Okta and Microsoft Entra are both in use with Text-Em-All today. If you use a different platform, contact Support before you start so we can confirm it.
| Platform | Status |
|---|---|
| Okta | In use with Text-Em-All today |
| Microsoft Entra | In use with Text-Em-All today |
| Another platform that supports OIDC | Should work. Contact Support to confirm. |
What if a user sees a password reset error?
Users who sign in through single sign-on can’t reset their password with the Forgot Password link, because the single sign-on platform manages the password. They should sign in through their single sign-on application. If they can’t reach it, they should contact their organization’s IT team.
For the full list of sign-in errors, see Troubleshooting login issues.
