How do I get my calls past my contacts' phone filters?
iPhones and Androids both let people screen, silence, and file away calls from numbers they don't recognize, and much of that filtering is on by default. So a call you send correctly can be sent to voicemail or a separate list before it ever rings.
These are settings on your contact's own phone, so Text-Em All can’t bypass these filters. What works is asking your contacts to adjust them, and the single most reliable step is asking them to save your number as a contact, which bypasses most unknown-caller filters right away.
Why would a call not ring at all?
A call may not ring because your contact's phone is set to silence numbers that aren't saved contacts. Both iPhone and Android can route unknown numbers straight to voicemail or a filtered list, with no ring and sometimes no missed-call notification. This is the most common reason a first-time call goes unheard. It isn't a failure on your end, and it isn't something we can change from our side. It usually clears the moment your contact saves your number.
What should my contacts change on iPhone?
On iPhone, the setting that most often blocks a first call is Silence Unknown Callers, which sends any number that isn't a saved contact to voicemail with no ring. People in Contacts, recent outgoing numbers, and Siri suggestions still ring through. Ask your contacts to check these on their own phone:
- Open Settings, tap Apps, then tap Phone.
- Under Screen Unknown Callers, select Never or Ask Reason for Calling, or save your number as a contact so it rings through anyway.
- If they use call filtering, check the separate list where silenced and spam-flagged calls collect, since a voicemail may be waiting there.
Newer iPhones can also screen unknown callers before the phone rings, asking who's calling and why. This often leaves a partial voicemail, but using our Message Reply Line allows broadcast recipients to call to replay the last message sent to their phone. The most reliable workaround is still being saved as a contact.

What should my contacts change on Android?
On Android, the Phone app labels suspected spam by default and can filter those calls out of the main call list entirely. When "Filter spam calls" is on, flagged calls never ring and go to a filtered list with no missed-call notification. Ask your contacts to check these on their own phone:
- Open the Phone app, tap the three-dot menu, then Settings.
- Open Caller ID & spam, and review whether "Filter spam calls" is turned on.
- Save your number as a contact, which keeps it out of the spam-filtered path.
Some Android phones, including Google Pixel, can also screen unknown callers automatically and transcribe them before pickup. As with iPhone screening, a pre-recorded message may not satisfy a screen that expects a live response.

What's the one thing that fixes most of this?
Getting your Text-Em-All number saved as a contact is the single most reliable fix, because a saved number bypasses most silence-unknown-callers and spam filters on both iPhone and Android.
Ask your contacts ahead of time to add your number. It costs them a few seconds and removes the most common reason your calls go unheard.
