Understanding Auto Opt-Outs
What is auto opt-out detection?
Text-Em-All automatically detects inbound messages that clearly indicate a recipient's intent to stop receiving communications. The system processes these requests immediately to maintain compliance and ensure you communicate only with engaged contacts. This automation saves time while protecting your sender reputation.
When someone sends a message requesting removal, the system recognizes the intent and automatically opts them out without requiring manual intervention. You can review all automated decisions and reverse them when necessary.

What messages trigger auto opt-outs?
The auto opt-out system analyzes inbound messages for clear indicators that recipients want to stop receiving communications. The system looks for phrases that express intent to be removed or indicate the message reached an incorrect recipient.
Common messages that trigger auto opt-outs include:
- "Please remove me from your list"
- "This is the wrong number"
- "Please do not text this number"
- "How do I opt out?"
- "Take me off this list"
- "I don't want these messages"
Messages that will NOT trigger auto opt-outs:
- Messages containing only numbers
- Messages longer than 200 characters
- Messages from contacts who replied "unstop" within the last 6 months
Where can I view auto opt-out messages?
All messages that triggered automatic opt-outs are stored in a dedicated folder for easy review. This allows you to monitor the system's decisions and identify any patterns in opt-out requests.
To view auto opt-out messages:
- Navigate to the Conversations page from your dashboard
- Click the Auto Opt-Out folder in the left sidebar
- Review the list of conversations that triggered automatic opt-outs
Each conversation shows the original message that triggered the opt-out, along with the contact's information and the date the action was taken.
How do I undo an auto opt-out?
The automated system occasionally makes incorrect decisions about opt-out intent. When you identify a message that was incorrectly processed, you can restore the contact's active status in just a few steps.
To reverse an auto opt-out:
- Navigate to the Conversations page
- Click the Auto Opt-Out folder in the left sidebar
- Locate the conversation you want to restore
- Click the three-dot menu next to the conversation
- Select Opt back in from the dropdown menu
- Click Opt in in the confirmation dialog
Important: Only opt contacts back in if you are completely certain they want to continue receiving messages. When in doubt, it's better to leave them opted out to maintain compliance and respect their communication preferences.
What other opt-out methods are available?
Beyond automatic detection, Text-Em-All processes opt-out requests through multiple channels to ensure complete compliance with messaging regulations.
Standard opt-out keywords:
The system automatically processes replies containing these standard terms: stop, quit, end, cancel, unsubscribe, opt out, opt-out, optout, or revoke.
Manual opt-outs:
Account holders can manually opt out phone numbers directly within their Text-Em-All account. This is useful when contacts request removal through other communication channels.
